AWIT’s Real-World Product Management Specializations Receive Credit Recommendation from The American Council on Education

New Amazon Web Service and Coursera sponsored set of courses allows students to earn credits towards a postsecondary degree and provides learners with industry skills to land product management and cloud computing roles at FAAMG companies

SEATTLE — August 3, 2022 — Advancing Women in Technology (AWIT), a global 501(c)(3) non-profit organization advancing women and underrepresented groups into tech leadership roles by upskilling its members, in collaboration with Amazon Web Service (AWS) announced today its Real-World Product Management Specialization and Real-World Cloud Product Management Specialization courses, available globally on Coursera, have been officially validated by the American Council for Education (ACE)®.

AWIT’s courses prepare learners to succeed in product management and cloud-based roles in the tech industry and covers the fundamental business and technical principles needed to pass the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam. It also helps the learner demonstrate competence for the many job opportunities available across AWS and its customers and partners. Since its September 2021 launch, AWIT’s courses, Real-World Product Management and Cloud Product Management Specializations have enrolled more than 29,000 learners across the world. With this ACE credit recommendation, learners who complete an AWIT Specialization may earn up to six hours of postsecondary credit per course.

“The inclusion of our programs in the American Council on Education’s National Guide is a major milestone for AWIT as we work to provide financially accessible and industry aligned courses for learners everywhere, especially women and underrepresented groups in tech,” said Nancy Wang, Founder and Board Chair of AWIT and General Manager of Backup and Data Protection Services at AWS. “It is crucial for students to receive real world experience to prepare for their first or next role at the world’s top technology companies like AWS and with this recommendation, I am honored to upskill and help bring more experiences to advance even more learners across the globe.”

Both programs are offered 100% online and allows users to self-pace. Real-World Product

Management Specialization offers a credit recommendation from ACE for up to six college credits at the lower-division baccalaureate level as a 16 week (64 hour) course that teaches the art and science and business of product management while preparing for the project management interview. Real-World Cloud Product Management Specialization offers a credit recommendation from ACE for up to six college credits at the upper-division baccalaureate level and is a 12 week (24 hour) course that uses the same curriculum as AWS product managers and prepares learners for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Exam.

“The demand for cloud continues to outpace the number of cloud-savvy workers out there. This leaves most organizations struggling to find and hire skilled talent to implement cloud services. In collaboration with organizations like AWIT, AWS is committing to building a diverse pipeline of early-career talent,” said Maureen Lonergan, Vice President of Training and Certification at AWS. “Together with AWIT, we are on a mission to elevate education opportunities for everyone, regardless of their circumstances. I’m excited that these courses will help learners earn credits towards their postsecondary degrees.”

“ACE Credit Recommendations are a meaningful way of knocking down barriers for learners in the US who have historically faced challenges accessing higher education,” said Betty Vandenbosch, Chief Content Officer at Coursera. “We are pleased to collaborate with AWS and AWIT to support the career goals of women and other underrepresented groups in the technology sector through flexible, job-relevant learning content.”
